TIMUN 2012, Challenge Accepted

Sainte Pulchérie participated to the 19th TIMUN, Turkish International Model United Nations, Conference in Üsküdar American Academy with its delegation of five, representing United Arab Emirates for the positions of delegates and ambassadors...

“The most distinguished chair and honourable delegates,

Today we have gathered here to reasonably discuss world issues once again during TIMUN 2012 and we are glad to do so as the delegation of United Arab Emirates. We are setting out today to find better resolutions which will contribute to peace throughout the world. Our goal is to achieve a new order in the world which will lead humanity to develop further. Today our nation has a thriving economy. But our nation issues with boundary disputes with Iran, combats with drug trafficking and deals with several terrorist groups spread all over the country. As the conference goes on we are looking forward to solve our issues and world issues by voting to the best resolution. We wish fruitful debates to all committees and delegations…”

… and so addressed our UAE ambassador Cem Ünal to the most distinguished delegates during the opening ceremony.

It was so exciting for SP to be part of the discussions concerning the now and then of the world. Without any doubt it was an unequalled opportunity to share their common knowledge and seek solutions to worldly matters regarding measures to prevent terrorist groups from acquiring weapons of mass destruction, human rights violations in Syria, the status of child soldiers under the Geneva Convention, protection of the global climate for the present and future of the planet, the usage of DNA surveillance in security systems and its implications on privacy, the misuse of social media for stealing private information and so on…

As the delegates of Disarmament, Human Rights, Environment, Legal Committees and Special Conference, they put all their effort to have a say in the future of our world. TIMUN was a grand family composed of approximately 600 participants from the USA, France, Italy, Israel, Holland, Germany, Jordan, etc. One cannot help but be marvelled at the level of the official language, English, of the conference. So those were extremely valuable 4 days for our delegates to practice their debate skills in English.

Furthermore, the chairman workshop which was offered by TIMUN executive team was a rewarding experience for our prospective chairs of GEMUN 2013, Genoa Model United Nations, Conference which will be held between 20-25 February in Genoa, Italy. We wish our most honourable and distinguished delegates all the best for upcoming GEMUN conference. It is true that they will have the most important positions as chairs, ambassadors and delegates in Europe’s one of the biggest and most important conferences, but our delegates have already proved that they are ready for this challenge.

You can find our ambassador’s opinions on TIMUN 2012 below :

“I think it was a great conference because there was a great atmosphere of collaboration and multiculturally diverse committees led to a perfect exchange between delegates. It was really fruitful for me because the English level was very high and it was an opportunity for me to develop my speaking skills and interpersonal relation skills. The rate of information exchanged throughout the conference was extremely high thus I learned lots of different points regarding various conference issues. So I am really glad to having participated to TIMUN’12.”

Cem Ünal, L 3 A.
