Our English MUN Club at the MUNESCO Conference

From March 4th to March 6th, 2022 student delegates of our English MUN Club participated to the MUNESCO conference, organized by Bilkent Laboratory and International School. Our MUN Club members have written their impressions.

Just like the years before, our MUN club had the opportunity to be a part of MUNESCO. The agenda items were interesting, 5 delegates of our English MUN club, including myself, had a great time researching and writing resolutions. We represented our school in 5 different committees; GC2, GC4, SF2, EB1 and EB2. During 3 days we tried to solve issues that are currently threatening our world such as water crisis in South Africa, ensuring equal education to Middle Eastern children, combatting discrimination based on sexual orientation and providing abortion rights to women in countries with a ban on abortion.

Although last year’s conference was very well organised and one of the best conferences I attended, I cannot say the same for this year. Honestly I was disappointed. Compared to last year the debate was dry and the delegates weren’t motivated to talk. After a while I had the impression that only me and a couple of other delegates were following the debate. I did have a lot of fun when they brought in extra delegates to make the debate more interesting. Even though it was boring at times, I had the opportunity to participate more than I’ve ever had.

Overall, MUNESCO was a good opportunity to improve our debating skills and gain confidence. We would like to thank the organising team for their hard work.

This was the second online MUN conference I have attended so far and it went pretty well. The delegates and the chairs in my committee were extremely polite. We had a good time and the conference in general was a pleasant experience.

This year was a little bit more dull than the last year because the delegate’s participation was not sufficient. Other than that the organization, topics and chairs were well organized. The English level was good and the debates were understandable.

Compared to last year’s conference it was a little underwhelming with all the first timers that participated. Also the participation was low compared to last year. The chairs navigated the sessions well but many delegates were not willing to speak or have a debate.

This was my second MUN so I was more aware of what was going on. It was a fun experience. The delegates in my committee were pretty talkative. Overall it was nice.
