Being part of a 20-year-old tradition... This seemed to us overwhelmingly interesting and motivating. The students prepared for weeks, days and nights for this marvelous conference, they worked hard and they exploited the opportunity to speak English during four days. Nora Şirinoğlu from 11B will try to put this extraordinary experience into words...
« This MUN conference took place in Uskudar American Academy. On Thursday, after school, we went to the opening ceremony which started with a concert. Later, we divided into groups according to our committees to meet the delegates who we were going to debate for the next 3 days.
On Friday, we divided into committees again and started lobbying. Lobbying is a process which requires writing a resolution or persuading people to sign resolutions that are already written. Lobbying lasted all day long.
On Saturday, the most exciting part of the conference started, we began to debate on the topics related to our agenda. Since this was my first conference, I observed delegates’ speeches first and then took the floor.
As Sainte Pulchérie, we were representing Iraq, all of us were in different committees such as disarmament, territorial disputes, human rights, legal, environment, economic and social committee and special conference committee. Debates were really difficult but fun. Not only we improved our English level but also saw the world’s problems from different points of views and came up with ideas.
On Sunday we debated at first and then joined to General Assembly where every committee debated about the resolutions which had passed the day before.
At the end of the day, we watched the Closing Ceremony. Finally, we said goodbye to our friends either Turkish or foreign and had emotional time because of closure of this pleasant conference.
Thanks to our teachers who gave us the opportunity to join this amazing conference. »
