Our English MUN Club was honored to be a part of 28th annual session of TIMUN. The conference was hosted online by Üsküdar American Academy and is one of Turkey’s oldest and most prestigious conferences. We tried to solve issues related to the theme of “Resilience Amidst Uncertainty” with our 7 delegates representing the delegation of Spain. In the scope of this conference we have had fruitful and productive debates with different delegates from international schools.
Our delegates took part in the General Assembly committees, Special Conferences on Health and Ecological Crises and Economic and the Social Council. In the ECOSOC committee, we discussed the issue of managing global supply chains, ensuring proportionate taxation of MNCs and the question of ensuring healthcare and insurance systems for all. I read the chair reports and did research beforehand, in order to come up with solution ideas, a.k.a clauses. During the lobbying sessions, we talked to other delegates and we created resolutions to present to the house and chairs. Then we started debating upon them. Each delegate was representing a country, therefore we had to act according to our country’s policies. After 3 days of debating, we passed 7 resolutions in total, each presenting realistic and applicable solutions to the issues at hand. We also had fun sessions which helped us know each other as a committee and take a break from politics. We played ice breaker games and had amusing activities. During the breaks, our chairs created breakout rooms which allowed us to chat with international delegates. We had a great cultural exchange with delegates from The Netherlands, Poland, Uzbekistan and many more.
Overall, TIMUN 2021 was a great experience which helped us improve our English, make new and international friends and learn more about worldwide crises. We would like to thank Üsküdar American Academy for their efforts and the opportunity to experience what it is like to be a UN delegate.
Simply, It was a good conference. The environment, discipline and the procedures were well prepared and there weren’t any failures in them other than the approval panel approving the resolutions in more than 1 hour the first day. Also, the delegates and chairs were really into debate and we all established a healthy discussion environment. For my part (meaning my experience in TIMUN) the conference passed very well, improving my MUN abilities. I would like to attend it again next year. If the conference is in person the next year my experience would ameliorate in an overall manner I guess.
This conference has been a very pleasant experience.I learned a lot from this conference. There were many experienced delegates which made the overall experience a lot more enjoyable. We had many fruitful debates and I learned a lot from everyone who has participated. The chairs were really attentive towards the delegates.Overall this was a well organized conference and I am happy to have attended.
As we’ve come to the end of TIMUN, I can say that it was a good conference and an effective experience for me. The discipline, chairs, procedures and the environment were very well prepared. Also, the delegates were eager to participate and that made the debates more fruitful in my opinion. For me, the conference went very well. It allowed me to improve my MUN abilities, my speaking skills as a delegate and thanks to this conference I’ve also made new friends. I would definitely want to attend it again next year. I am glad that I participated in this conference.
Overall, it was a good experience. Chairs were kind, the debates were fruitful. Although the schedule wasn’t that great, and there were some issues with the lobbying and approval panel, it was fun participating. Generally, debates were structured well and beneficial for improving and expanding my range of asking questions and overall debating area. Of course, it would be better if TIMUN 2021 was in person but this is what we have for now, if the next year the conference is in person I may consider participating again.
